Bugnes

Next shipping from France
Next month our next shipping will arrive in Japan. We will give detailed information about the new wines and their producers on our web site shortly (www.vinsfinmotohama.com). Anyway let me write a few words quickly...
In Burgundy we tasted a lot and bought from Pierre Naigeon and Domaine Lucien Jacob. There is much more to come but we take a lot of time to choose and this time we had to restock in haste.
Pierre Naigeon's wineyards grow on some of the best plots in Gevrey and Chambolle and I think that he is just working the right way to produce truely great wines. I will say much more about his work on the VFM site. We brought to Japan two amazing Gevrey-Chambertin from him. It is a nice start with Pierre's wines since all we tasted from him was good.
Domaine Lucien Jacob is now directed by Chantal, Christine & Jean-Michel Jacob. Chantal and Jean-Michel are resp. daughter and son of Lucien who created the domain. The domain spreads
on the famous Vergelesses hillside that faces the Corton Charlemagne one. Let me explain its specificity. On an area that is about a hundred meters large the soil is the so-called "Marne Blanche" which is a white mix of limestone and clay most suitable for producing top white wines. Jean-Michel that is in charge of wine making is doing a nice job and respects as much as possible what Nature gives him. That is what we like.
We got from Domaine Lucien Jacob two white wines: Savigny-Vergelesses 1er cru 2008 that comes from the plot above and Hautes-Cotes de Beaune 2008 that is more affordable, really amazing and suits sushis perfectly. There is a picture of the bottle on the blog. It is a tough concurrent for our Saint-Veran, both are made of Chardonnay but taste quite differently.
We could also taste again Jean-Michel Bouldy's Chateau Bellegrave 2004 and 2005. The 2004 millesime starts opening but it is not yet at the level of the 2003. Year 2005 was a great one and Bellegrave 2005 has much more tannins and is unsuitable for drinking now. One really has to be patient and wait a couple of years for it. It would be a pity to open such a bottle now.
We also visited Jean-Francois Ganevat in Jura and got a few boxes from him but those will be part of the next shipping. I will have to write about Jean-Francois and I am sure that it will be a whole story!
Regards to all,
V.
